TIME TO REVIEW

In our last post I wrote asking about making progress toward your goals for this year. I hope that you are gaining ground and moving ahead so far! The natural thing now is to do a review of your goals to determine if there need to be any substantial changes. This is one of the benefits of working with a Life Coach. He/She is trained to help you focus on the goals that you have set and then to ask probing questions in order to help you move ahead toward reaching even greater potential.

Let’s say, for example, that your primary goal is to write a book. In order to accomplish this you may have laid out several objectives, such as disciplining yourself to write a certain number of pages each day, and to begin the process of gathering information about publishers. How are you doing on these objectives? Now is the time to take a look at them and determine, not only if you are accomplishing them, but also if they are realistic today as far as what you hope to get done.

Maybe the number of pages you set for yourself to write each day is too small. You are not gaining ground on your target date for publication. Evaluate your progress and ask yourself what a reasonable number of pages per day would be. Note that I said reasonable. I have found that most of the time when someone gets too aggressive in their planning they fall short and end up frustrated. The thing about goals and objectives is that they need to stretch us while at the same time being attainable. In other words, set them high enough that, rather than being able to accomplish them just standing there, you need to jump to reach them. This requires more effort and planning but also leads to greater opportunities for success.

I’m a big fan of taking notes. Maybe it’s an age-related thing, but I’d rather have notes than trust my memory! So, I suggest that you do the same as you take the time to do this review. Assuming you wrote out your initial goals and objectives, now write down what you have accomplished and the time it took to get this much done. Ask yourself if there is a more reasonable way to go about this. Make a few notes about some of these possibilities. I find that we sometimes get so caught up in vision-casting that we forget some of the very ideas that might make all the difference in reaching our goals! Have you ever had so many ideas that you can’t remember the very first one? You will almost certainly toss some ideas out, but some of them will come together to formulate you new plan.

After all of this mind-work, get going again. Your book (or whatever your goal involves) will not write itself even with all of the best planning and organization in the world! Put pen to paper. Get on the computer and get that keyboard hopping! You are the only one who is going to make this happen.

Today is the day!

As always I am ready to assist so we can work together on getting you where you need to be in completing your goals. Use the contact information below to arrange your free 30-minute discovery call.
