So, how is your New Year going so far? In previous posts we’ve looked at being motivated to get more done and focusing on the more positive aspects of our lives that we want to reinforce. Do you ever stop everything for a bit in order to evaluate your progress?
As I wrote some weeks ago, my goal going into the New Year was to be more disciplined in my writing. I set the goal for myself of writing 5 days a week. I know things happen in life that can, and will, interfere with our best laid plans. This might include such things as having a great-granddaughter, doctor’s visits, unexpected shoveling of snow, and so forth (all of which have happened in recent weeks!). I would say that it is the rare individual who marches through events like these and never misses a beat regarding his/her goals in life.
Hence, the title this week: “Making Progress?” Ask yourself right now where you are in relation to your goals. Are you getting ahead, maintaining, or losing ground? I am happy to inform you that I am days ahead of my goal in terms of writing. On the other hand, I am sad to inform you that I would like to be weeks ahead rather than just days ahead. But, progress is progress, right?
Here’s the point that I want to sink in for you today: Don’t quit. Don’t give in to those thoughts about your goals not being worth it. Don’t focus on the temptations which would draw you away from your efforts to achieve your goals only to end up wasting your time. I had this conversation with my wife just this morning. How easy it is to get caught up in something that we enjoy, which isn’t inherently a bad thing but which leaves us unfulfilled and unaccomplished.
So, today I want to encourage you to re-cast the vision you set for yourself. Don’t harbor negative thoughts, thinking you will fail at this. Neither do I want you to get caught up in nothing more than positive thinking, hoping that merely having positive thoughts will put words on paper. If that were true, I would have several books completed by now! No, I want to encourage you, whatever your goals and dreams are, to re-cast them today; to put in the time and effort to make specific plans toward accomplishing them; then to take steps. No one can motivate you as well as you can yourself.
Make the choices to see your goals and dreams happen. No one is going to do it for you. Be aware that getting this going will end up taking you away from some other things that you might enjoy. But, let’s get real…how important is it that you play that game on your phone for another 30 minutes?
As always I am ready to come alongside you to work with you to identify and accomplish these goals and dreams. Life Coaching can make a world of difference. Use the contact information below to get in touch for your free 30 minute discovery call.
